Bradenton, Fla.----Wingate University senior Olisa Obiefuna (Saugus, Mass.) and freshman Vanisha Wilshire (Louisburg, N.C.) each earned second team All-American honors on Saturday afternoon to cap the 2016 NCAA Division II outdoor track and field championships for the Bulldogs. Overall, the Wingate men finished in 57th place. St Augustine's won the overall men's title, while Pittsburg State took home the women's NCAA championship.

"Overall, I'm very proud of all of our athletes who competed this weekend," head coach Travis LeFlore says. "They are all seasoned veterans to nationals and we expect them to return in the future, ready to go, hopefully with more teammates! It's been a great year for Wingate Track and Field."

Obiefuna earned second team All-American honors in the triple jump for the first time in his career. The senior set a new school record with his second jump of the day at 15.31 meters. Obiefuna is the fifth men's track and field student-athlete to earn All-American and the first ever in the triple jump.

"Olisa had a very good series of jumps in a very tough field this year overall," LeFlore says. "Typically. if you jump over 50 feet, you'll make the finals…but that wasn't the case this year. He has nothing to hang his head about. Ending the season with a new school record and second team All-American is a great finish."

Wilshire also picked up her first All-American honors on Saturday, finishing 10th in the high jump. She cleared 1.67 meters to earn a spot on the second team. The SAC freshman of the year also finished 19th in the triple jump for the Bulldogs on Friday. Wilshire becomes the second All-American for Wingate women's Track and Field, joining Christina Matheny who was a two-time All-American.

"Vanisha had a very good day," LeFlore says. "She came in as one of the last competitors in the women's high jump…to move up and finish 10th is great. She is still very raw in her events. She'll be a force nationally in the coming years."
