Jefferson City, Tenn.----Wingate University junior forward Odell Turner (Charlotte, N.C.) and sophomore forward Deion Turman (Pittsburgh, Pa.) had 15 points each to lead the Bulldogs past the Eagles of Carson-Newman College 78-64 in South Atlantic Conference men’s basketball action Saturday afternoon. Wingate improves to 12-10 overall and 8-4 in the SAC, while Carson-Newman falls to 13-9 overall and 6-6 in the conference.

Wingate, N.C.----Wingate University senior All-American Dodson McPherson (Graham, N.C.) picked up right where he left off last season, driving in five runs to lead the Bulldogs to a 7-5 victory in game one of a doubleheader over Concord University (W.Va.) in NCAA Division II baseball action Saturday afternoon at Ron Christopher Stadium and Plyler Athletic Field. Junior catcher Jason Hunter (West Chester, Pa.) had a double and homer to spark the offense in the 6-4 game two victory as Wingate moved to 2-0 on the season. Concord is 0-2 this year.

Jefferson City, Tenn.----A furious second half comeback by the Wingate University women’s basketball team fell short as the Carson-Newman College Eagles held on to defeat the Bulldogs 71-66 in a South Atlantic Conference match-up Saturday afternoon at Holt Fieldhouse. With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 13-7 and in a tie for fourth place with a 7-5 SAC record. Carson-Newman improves to 12-8 overall and 6-6 in the SAC. The teams split the season series, with Wingate winning 74-55 at Cuddy Arena on Dec. 3.
