Greensboro, N.C.----The Wingate University swimming teams continued their successes in the
All-North Carolina Invitational Saturday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The Wingate men finished fourth on the team leader board, while the Bulldog women claimed seventh place.
Wingate junior
Marko Blazevski (Skopje, Macedonia) was second in the 400 Individual Medley with a time of 4:02.65. North Carolina State sophomore
Michael Camper edged Blazevski by eight/one-hundredths of a second with his victorious time of 4:02.57. A 2012 Olympian, Blazevski was third in the 200 Butterfly (1:51.99) and sixth in the 200 Backstroke (1:54.20) Saturday.
Bulldog freshman
Damjan Petrovski (Skopje, Macedonia) was ninth in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 58.87. Senior
Rory Julyan (Cape Town, South Africa) was 10th in the 100 Breaststroke with his 59.57 time. Wingate freshman
Makis Jorgensen (Helsingborg, Sweden) was sixth in the 1650 Freestyle with a time of 16:42.11.
For the Wingate women, junior
Katie Pheil (Ocala, Fla.) had a big day. The Daytona State College transfer was fifth in the 200 Backstroke (2:06.17), seventh in the 100 Backstroke (59.03) and 15th in the 200 Freestyle (1:57.71).
Bulldog senior All-American
Paige Schmidt (Clearwater, Fla.) was seventh in the 1650 Freestyle with a time of 17:59.09. Redshirt freshman
Julie Wessler (Sprockhövel, Germany) was eighth in the 1650 Freestyle with her 18:05.86 clocking. Wessler helped Wingate finish ninth in the 200 Medley Relay (1:51.76). She was joined by freshmen
Rita Koryokova (Omsk, Russia) and Amanda Ray (Suwanee, Ga.) and junior
Charlotte Cornet (Brussels, Belgium).
Wingate will host five schools for a quad meet Nov. 2-3 at the Mecklenburg County Aquatics Center (MCAC) pool in downtown Charlotte. The Bulldogs will entertain Bluegrass Mountain Conference foes Catawba, Converse, Limestone and Queens (N.C.). Gardner-Webb will also participate in the two-day event.
