Wingate University plans Patriots' Day for September 18

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University athletic department is planning its 10th annual Patriots’ Day celebration in conjunction with the first home football game of the 2010 season. Wingate will host UNC Pembroke Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010 at Irwin Belk Stadium and John R. Martin Field. Game time is 1:30 p.m.
The University is inviting law enforcement, fire and emergency medical professionals to attend the game free of charge. Members of the aforementioned agencies must present their ID badges for free admittance to the Sept. 18 game. The ID badge admits the public servant and one (1) guest.
Wingate University is partnering with the Wounded Warrior Project to honor U.S. veterans on Patriots’ Day. The University is inviting veterans to attend the game free of charge. Veterans must present a military/veterans’ ID for free admittance to the Sept. 18 game. The ID admits the veteran and one (1) guest.
“Patriots’ Day is a special day for Wingate University,” Wingate vice-president and director of athletics Steve Poston says. “We began our Patriots’ Day celebration in 2001…taking an opportunity to pay special tribute to our community servants. We feel it is very important to set aside this day for special recognition and appreciation.”
