Bulldog signee Carpenter leads East to 99-98 victory in N.C. All-Star Game

Greensboro, N.C.----Wingate University men’s basketball signee Robert Carpenter (Fayetteville, N.C.) helped the East All-Stars earn a 99-98 victory in the East-West All-Star Game Monday night in the Greensboro Coliseum. The contest is sponsored by the N.C. Coaches’ Association.

Carpenter scored four points for the victorious East squad. University of North Carolina signee Reggie Bullock (Kinston, N.C.) scored a team-high 20 points, earning MVP honors. All 10 East All-Stars hit the scoring column Monday night.

Carpenter is a 6-4 guard who played for head coach Bill Boyette at Terry Sanford High School, where he was a co-captain his senior season. The three-time All-Conference selection averaged 14 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game as a senior.

Terry Sanford compiled a 59-5 overall record during Carpenter’s career, earning a pair of conference and regional titles and two runner-up finishes in the state tournament. He was an All-District selection in his final two seasons. Carpenter was named the MVP of the 2010 East Regional. He was sixth in the county in scoring and second in three-point field goals.

Wingate University is ranked number three among NCAA Division II Academic All-America® producing schools in the 2000’s with 36 honorees during this millennium. Only Pittsburg State (Kan.) University and Truman State (Mo.) University have produced more Academic All-America® honorees during this time period. Wingate’s 45 Academic All-America® honorees (lifetime) is tops among all SAC schools.
