Rock Hill, S.C.----The Wingate University women’s tennis team picked up three singles victories and two doubles triumphs to take a 5-1 win over Catawba College Thursday morning in the first round of the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference tournament at the Rock Hill Tennis Center.
With the victory, Wingate improves to 13-6 overall. Catawba concludes the 2009-10 season 12-15 overall. The number three seed Bulldogs will face number two seed Tusculum College (16-3 overall) at the Rock Hill Tennis Center. The first serve is slated for 9 a.m.

Hollyn Alberghini (Stanfield, N.C.) won the clinching match, defeating Catawba freshman
Maggie McKee (Mt. Airy, N.C.) 6-2, 6-4 at the number five singles flight. Wingate’s three singles victories were straight-set decisions. Both Alberghini and freshman
Helen Goreski (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) won two matches each for the Bulldogs Thursday.

Jennifer Dameron (Union Pines, N.C.) 9-7 in the number three doubles match. Later in the day, Goreski defeated Hall 6-3, 6-1 at the number four singles position.
The Indians won at the top doubles spot as juniors

Vanessa Silva (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) earned an 8-6 win over Wingate junior
