NCAA Division I Davidson tops Wingate 7-0 Saturday

Davidson, N.C.----Davidson College defeated Wingate University 7-0 Saturday morning at the Knobloch Tennis Center on the Davidson campus. The NCAA Division I Davidson Wildcats are 3-0 overall, while the Wingate Bulldogs are 1-2 overall.

In the number one doubles match, Wingate junior Kara Stasikelis (Greer, S.C.) and freshman Kelli Ferguson (Charlotte, N.C.) lost a tough 8-5 decision to Davidson seniors Virginia Berry (Spartanburg, S.C.) and Teresa Wang (Charlotte, N.C.). The Wildcats dropped only five games the rest of the day.

Wingate hits the road Tuesday, visiting NCAA Division II Southeast Region foe Augusta State (Ga.) University. The men’s and women’s tennis twin bill begins at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Davidson hosts Gardner-Webb University Saturday, Feb. 13 at 1 p.m.
