Atlanta, Ga.----The Wingate University men’s and women’s swimming teams will look to continue their successes this weekend as they swim against Emory University and Delta State University Saturday afternoon in Atlanta, Ga. This will be the Bulldogs last regular season meet before the Blue Grass Mountain Conference Championships February 17-20, 2010. The first event Saturday will take place at 2 p.m. in Emory’s Woodruff PE Center.
Emory’s women are the number one team in NCAA Division III, while the Eagle men are number four. The Delta State University teams are eighth (women) and fifth (men) in the nation. Both the Bulldog men and women teams are familiar with Division III powerhouse Emory University, as they have faced the Eagles each of the past two years. They have also seen Delta State at the NCAA Division II Swimming national championship meet.
The Bulldog men are currently 10th in the nation, led by seniors
Mason Norman (Duluth, Ga.) and
Kyle Corcoran (Kent, Wash.). Norman currently ranks fourth in the nation in both the 50 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle. The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® candidate is ninth in the 200 Freestyle. Corcoran is fifth in the nation in his signature event, the 400 Individual Medley. The men also have a strong lineup that features multiple upperclassmen with national-level experience.
The Bulldog women are currently 15th in the nation for NCAA Division II. They are led by junior captains
Nicole Moody Grovetown, Ga.) and
Sarah Supcoe (Charleston, W.Va.). Both women were All-BGMC swimmers last year, as well as making the national top 30 rankings in their respective signature events. Both Bulldog teams are currently undefeated in dual meet competition. They are looking forward to this weekend to keep the streak alive.

Wingate University is ranked number three among NCAA Division II Academic All-America® producing schools in the 2000’s with 34 honorees during this millennium. Only Pittsburg State (Kan.) University and Truman State (Mo.) University have produced more Academic All-America® honorees during this time period. Wingate’s 43 Academic All-America® honorees (lifetime) is tops among all SAC schools.
