Buckhannon, W.Va.----Wingate University senior Mason Norman (Duluth, Ga.) is this week’s Blue Grass Mountain Conference (BGMC) Swimmer of the Week, league officials announced Wednesday. The BGMC Swimmers of the Week are selected by the league’s head coaches.

A three-year All-American for the Bulldogs, Mason Norman helped number eight Wingate win the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) Invitational for the third year in a row. Norman won three individual events. In addition, he helped the Bulldogs earn the gold medal in four relay races.

Individually, the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® candidate posted an NCAA Division II “A” Cut in the 100 Freestyle (45.25) and the 100 Breaststroke (56.82, preliminaries). Thanks to the efforts of Norman and his teammates, Wingate recorded “A” Cuts in the 400 Freestyle Relay (3:04.00) and the 800 Freestyle Relay (6:49.10).

The SCAD event completes Wingate’s first semester schedule. The Bulldogs will take a break for final exams Dec. 7-12 before departing for their annual Florida training trip after Christmas.

On the women’s side, Converse College freshman Jenni Russell (Tega Cay, S.C.) is this week’s BGMC Swimmer of the Week. Russell notched two first-place finishes at the SCAD Invitational.

She touched first in the 400 Individual Medley with a time of 4:37.05. Russell won the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:22.47. Both of these times were NCAA Division II “B” Cuts with the Breaststroke time only 0.30 away from an NCAA “A” Cut.
