Savannah, Ga.----The Wingate University men’s and women’s swimming teams continue to lead the SCAD Invitational following Friday’s events. The women hold a 507-358 lead over second-place Florida Southern, while the men lead 630-308 over Darton College. Both teams have relay wins as well as multiple individual standouts.
On the men’s side, senior captain
Mason Norman had an individual win in the 50 Freestyle, as well as a hand in the victorious 400 Medley Relay and the 200 Freestyle Relay. The women were led by sophomore
Malin Kesmark and freshman
Matilda Larsson, as both had a relay victory as well as an individual top-three finish.
The men also had big performances from fellow seniors
Gus Chagas,
Daniel De Francisco and
Kyle Corcoran. Chagas was a part of both victorious relays as well as finishing second in his signature 200 Freestyle. De Francisco was a part of the 200 Freestyle Relay and finished in the top three of the 200 Freestyle. Corcoran won his 400 Individual Medley over fellow Bulldog
Marcello Machado. Sophomore
Lee Sousa was victorious in his 100 Backstroke as well as being a part of the 400 Medley Relay.
Several women stepped up, proving the depth of the team. Junior captain
Sarah Supcoe took second in her 400 Individual Medley. Senior
Samantha Vencl was top five in her 100 Backstroke as well as being a part of two strong relays. Junior All-American
Cheryl Vaccaro was also a part of the two relays as well as earning two top eight finishes in her individual races.
The SCAD College Invitational concludes Saturday. Following the SCAD event, the Bulldogs will take a break for final exams Dec. 7-12 before departing for their annual Florida training trip after Christmas.
