Lauren Billo (Orland Park, Ill.) has been named the South Atlantic Conference volleyball Player of the Week. Billo earns the award for the second straight week, third time this year, and fourth time in her career.
Billo averaged 4.33 kills per set, while hitting .328 as the 23rd-ranked Bulldogs notched another perfect week in SAC action, clinching their fourth straight regular season SAC title. Billo had 13 kills and six digs in the 3-0 win at Lenoir-Rhyne Tuesday. She had 13 kills, four digs and an ace in the 3-0 win over Newberry Saturday. Billo hit over .320 in both matches, committing only four errors in 67 attacks. She ranks second in the SAC with 4.37 kills per set and a .319 hitting percentage on the season.
Billo has topped the 10-kill mark in five consecutive matches, while collecting at least seven kills in 20 straight contests. She has also hit over .300 in her last nine outings. Billo is hitting a team-best .323 in SAC contests.
The Bulldogs are 29-1 overall, riding a 17-match winning streak. The top team in the Southeast Region, the Bulldogs have won 44 consecutive SAC matches. Wingate completed its third straight perfect SAC road slate with a 3-0 win at Lenoir-Rhyne Tuesday. The Bulldogs will look to complete their third straight perfect conference season this weekend.
Wingate will host second place Carson-Newman Friday night at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs will host third place Lincoln Memorial Saturday, honoring four seniors on Senior Day. The following weekend, Wingate will try to notch its fourth straight Food Lion SAC Tournament title in Greeneville, Tenn. The Bulldogs have already earned the top seed in the tournament.
