Odell  Turner
Men's Basketball
Bulldog freshman forward Odell Turner is this week’s Wingate University Athlete of the Week. Turner had 22 points and nine rebounds in a tough 95-89 loss at Catawba College Wednesday night, Jan. 6. Turner leads the Bulldogs with 13.1 points per game and 6.4 rebounds per game. Turner also sports a team-best 25 blocked shots.
 
Turner was named the South Atlantic Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week on Monday, Jan. 4, 2010. The Myers Park High School graduate averaged 15.3 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game while leading Wingate to an impressive 3-0 record during his triumphant week.
Stacie Rhodes
Women's Basketball
Wingate senior center Stacie Rhodes (Knightdale, N.C.) had two solid games as the Bulldogs compiled a 1-1 record last week. On Saturday afternoon, Rhodes led the balanced Wingate attack with 14 points as the Bulldogs topped North Greenville 81-53. Rhodes hit six-of-12 shots from the field. She added five rebounds and a game-high four blocks to her statistics ledger Saturday. On Wednesday night, Rhodes posted nine points, 11 rebounds and seven blocked shots as Wingate dropped a tough 64-59 decision at Catawba.
 
For the week, Rhodes averaged 11.5 points per game, 8.0 rebounds per game and 5.5 blocks per game. The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® candidate averages 7.0 points per game, a team-best 7.1 rebounds per game and 2.2 blocks per game this season. Rhodes has a perfect 4.000 GPA as a Management major at Wingate.
